Stefan Gluske
« on: July 21, 2019, 10:27:04 PM »
My dear friends,

It is with deep regrets that I need to inform you all that today I learned that our oldest BHS-member, Stefan Gluske, has passed away earlier this month at the age of 91. Although Stefan had stopped collecting for quite some time, to my recollection he attended every meeting held in Europe. Binoculars in general, and especially military sights were his passion. I remember Stefan as a kind and very gentle man with an outstanding, English like dry sense of humor. When he learned about the Flak book project at the Hague Meeting, he informed me that he had a few assembly drawings of the binocular. A week later we received a letter containing all he had on the topic - such was Stephan. The leads he so kindly provided later turned out to be crucial to our publication.

Stefan will be dearly missed. If all agree, I'll write a condolence letter to his family on behalf of the Foundation.

Yours,

Peter.

Yes, Peter. Plaase do so.
As far as I remember, when I got a call from his wife, his health problems were one reason not to register for our Ostend meeting.

Dear friends,

Today I've heard back from Stefan's family. They informed me that Stefan was very saddened not being able to attend the Ostend convention as he was so looking forward to it, yet his health issues were standing in the way. Stefan was committed to hospital because of cardiac problems and passed away three weeks later.

The family appreciated our condolences and wanted to express their appreciation of the joy the Society has given Stefan by making his extensive amount of research documents available to our community - once the family has returned to calmer waters. I would propose to have them digitized and catalogued (if such isn't already the case) and make them available here as the "Stefan Gluske Archive", as a fitting trubite of our good and knowledgeable friend.

Yours,

Peter.

Dear Uli,

Thank you for your kind help to help in scanning. Depending on the amount of documents I'd suggest to create a "scanning task force" in order to spread the work load. Yesterday Stefans' remembrance card arrived, addressed to all members of the BHS. For some reason though I am receiving errors when uploading, will try again later.

Thank you guys, most appreciated. The family hasn't reached out to me yet for understandable reasons but I expect they will do so in the near future. I will keep you all posted.
