Completely unknown Item

I am putting this down as part of a gun sight. But that a wild stab in the dark really as I have no real idea.

Its an angled ocular, brass and very heavy, so guessing  WW1?

I might be wrong Don, but it looks like an eye piece/prism holder of an AA Mark III observation telescope to me.

Apart from the 1/4" mark on the eye piece, there are no other markings on it. It is very heavy so was attached to something substantial. That's why my initial though was a gun sight. But a large range finder might fit the bill as well

Actually, if anyone needs this, they can have it for the cost of postage, its a heavy beast.
